Lantern Review: A Journal of Asian American Poetry
Issue 4 | Winter 2012
Selections from
“Together We Are New York”
Artist's Statement:
The following poems are a selection from the polyphonic multimedia performance “Together We Are New York: Asian Americans Remember and Re-Vision 9/11.” For this community-based public arts poetry project, Kundiman poets interviewed community members on their experiences with 9/11 and the decade since. I served as Artistic Director of this project and generated these poems after our poet team meetings and a conversation with Rajinder Singh Khalsa, survivor of a hate crime in 2004. More information on this unique project can be found at www.kundiman.org/kavad.
